Storage is a moving problem, not a warehouse problem
Most people need storage because two dates did not line up, not because they want a unit. That changes what good storage looks like.
A self-storage unit is a room you rent and fill yourself. This is different: we pack it, we load it, we inventory it as it goes in, and we bring it back out and place it in the new house. You do not rent a truck twice or handle the same sofa four times.
The inventory matters more than people expect. When a household sits for six weeks, memory is not a filing system. Everything is listed as it is loaded, so you can ask for one specific thing without opening the whole lot.
When people use it
- The closing gap. You are out on the fifteenth and in on the thirtieth. This is the most common reason by a wide margin.
- Downsizing. The new place is smaller and some of the household is waiting on a decision.
- Renovation. The house is staying but the contents need to be somewhere else for a while.
- Relocation in stages. You are moving out of state and the second half follows later.

What storage does not solve
Storage buys time, and it costs money for every week it does. The cheapest storage is the storage you do not need, so if your dates are close we will tell you whether a direct move is realistic before quoting a hold.
It is also worth being clear that a household in storage is not accessible the way a rented unit is. Getting one item out means a scheduled retrieval, not a drive over on a Saturday. If you will need regular access to your own things, a self-storage unit is genuinely the better product and we will say so.
What cannot go in
- Perishables and open food. Nothing that attracts pests.
- Hazardous materials. Fuel, propane, solvents, aerosols and ammunition.
- Live plants and pets.
- Cash, jewellery and irreplaceable documents. These stay with you.

How is storage priced?
By the space your household actually occupies and how long it is held. That is why it is quoted after a walkthrough rather than from a per-square-foot table, which tells you very little about what a four-bedroom house takes up once it is wrapped and stacked.
What if I need it longer than planned?
Extending is a phone call. Closing dates move constantly and we would rather you told us than worried about it.
Can I get something out while it is stored?
Yes, but it is a scheduled retrieval rather than drop-in access. If you expect to need things regularly, a self-storage unit is the better fit and we will tell you that up front.
Is my furniture wrapped the whole time?
Yes. Items are wrapped before they leave the house and stay wrapped until they are placed in the new one.
Can you store between Portland and Eugene?
Yes. A household can go in at one end and come out at the other, which is common for moves between the two markets.
