Distance changes the promises a mover can honestly make
A local move happens on a day. A long-distance move happens across a window, and any mover who tells you otherwise is setting up a difficult phone call later.
Weather, weigh stations, hours-of-service rules and the other households on the route all move the arrival date. What a good long-distance mover controls is the size of that window, how early you know it, and whether anyone answers the phone during it.
The inventory is what protects you across the gap. Every item is numbered at the load and checked off at the delivery, so a missing box is a conversation with a list rather than a memory test after a fortnight.

What we will tell you before you book
Long-distance moving is the part of this industry with the worst reputation, and it is earned. The pattern is always the same: a low telephone estimate, a much higher number once the truck is loaded, and a delivery date that turns out never to have been a date at all.
So we quote from a survey rather than a phone call, we give you the window before you commit, and if we cannot service a route properly we say so rather than taking the booking and subcontracting it to whoever is available.
Things worth knowing up front
- Delivery is a window, not a time. Anyone promising a guaranteed hour on a cross-country move is guessing.
- Hazardous materials do not travel. Fuel, propane, solvents, aerosols and ammunition.
- Live plants and pets travel with you. Several states also restrict plants at the border.
- Access at the destination matters. A street a full-size truck cannot enter means a shuttle, and it is much cheaper to know that before the truck is loaded.

How far in advance should I book?
Four to six weeks for an interstate move in normal months, and longer over the summer. Earlier booking buys you a narrower delivery window, which is usually what people actually want.
How long will delivery take?
It depends on the route and the season. You are given a window at the quote, before you book, and told if it changes. We would rather give you a wider window we can hold than a narrow one we cannot.
How is a long-distance move priced?
On weight and volume plus distance, which is why it is quoted from a survey rather than over the phone. A telephone estimate on an interstate move is the single most common source of a bad experience.
What if my new place is not ready when the truck arrives?
Storage in transit. The household is held rather than delivered into somewhere you cannot get into, and delivered when you have keys.
Do you handle moves into Oregon as well as out?
Yes, in both directions, into Portland and Eugene.
